Since I Laid My Burden Down

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
(What a Fellowship)

After I wrote, conducted and co-produced the horn arrangements for the renowned Reverend Walter Hawkins’* Grammy-nominated album “Love-Alive IV”, ** he donated his services as producer and provided the sanctuary of Love Center Church, where he was the Pastor, for the live-in-concert selections on this “Big Band Gospel” album.

As publisher, Rakeiho Publishing Company (ASCAP) provided opportunities for gifted song composers to introduce their music on this album, and to establish their own fledgling publishing companies:

The premiere recordings of Don’t Forget Love and Trust in God, by the brilliant composer, Mondré Moffett (Mondré Publications, ASCAP); and Family and Adam’s Song, by the gifted song writer, Ms. Ramona Ellis (RoeSong Publishing, ASCAP) are, thus, heard on this album.

*Bishop Walter Hawkins, 1949 – 2010

**1988, 31st Annual Grammy Awards, Best Gospel Album by a Choir or a Chorus

Rakeiho Publishing Company (ASCAP) conducts all of its business as a division (DBA) of Rakeiho Musical Offerings, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit tax exempt educational corporation (RMOI). Article VII of the Articles of Incorporation of RMOI stipulates that: “The property of this corporation is irrevocably dedicated to educational purposes and no part of the net income or assets of this organization shall ever inure to the benefit of any director, officer or member thereof or to the benefit of any private individual.” Thus, financial assets from all publishing activities shall be dedicated to the support of the specific and primary purpose for which the corporation was founded: education. The operational functions of the American Music Educational Television Project shall be seen, officially, as the primary recipient of said assets. The RMOI Board of Trustees will be responsible for the administration of same.

This big band exists to help promote and perform the Sacred Music of Duke Ellington, and to co-perform, with symphony orchestras, the Ellington-Horton Black, Brown and Beige (please visit the Duke Ellington posting on this Rakeiho Publishing Company website). In those contexts (rehearsals, concert performances, recording, travel expenses), each individual member/musician within the big band will function as an independent contractor. RMOI will initiate, supervise and consummate all independent contractual agreements with each  artist (including instrumental musicians/performers, solo-singers/choral singers, dancers, and any other performers affiliated with the big band’s general activities).

N.B. While I appreciate my erstwhile commitment to the fields organized- church and synagogue music leadership (until 2005), my current commitment to music has no direct religious affiliation. My intent is to educate and to serve humanity. I will receive no compensatory income from this publishing company; hence its construct, in contexts of my Ellington calling, is strictly defined as Third-Party Publisher, and other publishing activities will not accrue to my personal financial benefit.

Thank you,
